Betsy DeVos and Her Impact On Our Schools

Betsy DeVos is the current Secretary of Education under the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. She is a Republican and is well known for her stance on school choice which allows students to attend schools of their choosing to make better choices for their educational needs.

DeVos has long been active in politics, exercising her right to support political candidates who echo the politics that conform to her views of government, as is the choice of all Americans.

Betsy is married to Dick DeVos, formerly the CEO of the Amway Corporation, located in Grand Rapids Michigan. She and her husband have been active in Republican politics for some years, and Betsy served as the chairwoman of the Michigan Republican party from 1996 to 2000.

Betsy is the chairwoman of the Windquest Group which is a company that is involved with the advocacy of clean energy and the manufacture and development of sources to generate and distribute such energy. She and her husband are also investors and are board members of Neurocore, a company that is involved in the therapy of patients who are suffering from memory loss as they age, as well as various treatments to offset such loss, and to provides methods of regaining memory.

Betsy DeVos is a strong advocate of school choice, school vouchers, and public school reform. She is very aware of the dichotomy of our public schools where our inner city schools are a far cry from what is still being offered in many of our white suburban schools.

She has openly stated that her belief that there should be more emphasis on the opening of more for-profit charter schools, as the current state of education in our schools is nothing more than a close system where no diversity and open change can take place. The years of billions of educational funding have done nothing to improve the lot of our inner city education, and changes need to be implemented, according to DeVos. Part of her solution to the dilemma of the inner cities is to provide school vouchers that would allow the attendance of private schools for children and use public funding to do that.

To back up her claims, Betsy DeVos points to her past accomplishments where she served as chairwoman of the board of Alliance for School Choice. She also served with her husband as the heads of the All Children Matter PAC which promotes school vouchers, tax credits to businesses who help in these causes, and the support of candidates who are for these measures.

DeVos has advocated the proliferation of the Detroit Charter School System where 47 percent of the charter schools in Detroit outperformed the traditional public schools in reading and graduation rates were higher as well. Visit Betsy’s profile on Twitter.
